CMMI® - Capability Maturity Model Integration

Increase your capability!

Why CMMI?

Companies face growing demands on their capability to deliver products faster, cheaper and better – while complexity in product engineering is increasing at the same time.

What is CMMI?

CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a family of process models which describe best practices in a systematic interdependent context  and serve as a de-facto industry standard to improve the capability of organizations in three areas:

  • Development of products and services – CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV)
  • Service delivery – CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC – in pilot phase)
  • Supplier management – CMMI for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ)

What is it for? CMMI® is used

  • To get orientation and a focus for systematic improvements
  • To objectively analyze the strengths and improvement potentials of an organization
  • As a benchmark

Typical improvement goals are:

  • Higher quality
  • Greater adherence to schedules
  • Shorter development times
  • Higher productivity
  • Greater customer satisfaction
  • Greater staff satisfaction

What are the results?

Organizations have achieved the following results with systematic improvements using CMMI:

What is the role of the consultant?

Studies show that more than 70% of improvement projects have little or no success. Central success factors focusing the improvement on vital business goals, involving practitioners as well as management, and consistent project management of the improvement project. The many years of experience our consultants have had as “perpetrators”, but also as former “victims” ensure your sustained success.

Who uses it?

CMMI® is used all over the world in companies of the most diverse industry sectors - like software, finance, automotive, and mechanical engineering. 55 000 people all over the world have taken part in the three-day introductory training seminar. To date more than 3000 assessments (SCAMPI®) have been performed by organizations in the following countries:

What investments are required?

Experience shows that the level of investment (in % of the development capacity) has a significant impact on the speed of improvement required to reach CMMI maturity levels 2 or 3). Raytheon, for instance, had invested 8% of its development capacity (400 developers) to achieve maturity level 2 in about 2.5 years.
