ISO 15504 - called SPICE - is a widely-used and accepted standard to assess and improve software development processes.
Since October 2007 part 6 of the SPICE standard is available: ISO/IEC TR 15504-6:2008: Process Assessments - Part 6: “An exemplar system life cycle process assessment model”. With this SPICE /ISO 15504 is now also available for application in systems engineering. Possible areas of application:
- Developing hardware, machines and installations
- Handling customer projects in machine and mechanical engineering
- Developing & delivering "embedded systems" or software-intensive systems
- Handling major IT infrastructure projects (considered only insufficiently by ITIL/ISO20000)
- Component development for OEMs (e.g. for automotive suppliers - supplementing Automotive SPICE®)
- System development in cooperation with sub-suppliers (e.g. cars (OEMs) --> system: "That’s the rest of the car" or Transportation)
- Development of "safety-related systems". - The system lifecycle of "SPICE for Systems" complements the safety lifecycle of the IEC 61508.
Content
This one-day course offers participants an overview of
- the ISO15504 (SPICE) concepts
- the reference processes of ISO 15504-6 (SPICE for Systems) and its performance indications (base practices and work products)
- possible applications of SPICE for Systems as well as
- an understanding of the relevance of the capability levels from CL 0 to CL 5
