"Automotive SPICE in Practice": Interpretation Guide for Users and Assessors is the recognized industry standard work on the Automotive SPICE ® process improvement and assessment model. The reference book was written by our colleagues Markus Mueller and Dr. Klaus Hörmann together with Joerg Zimmer and Lars Dittmann. Bhaskar Vanamali and Dr. Klaus Hoermann have also published the compact Automotive SPICE Essentials – at a glance. With our practical tools, we make your daily work with ASPICE easier: the poster helps you to keep an overview at all times, while the original pocket guide means you always have the most important information to hand.
Back to ASPICEA standard work on using Automotive SPICE® in practice – the second edition of this handy guide for users and assessors on interpreting Automotive SPICE®. This book has been thoroughly revised based on the new Version 3 of Automotive SPICE®.
In introducing and implementing Automotive SPICE®, it is important to develop solutions in keeping with any specific circumstances that may affect a project or the situation faced by the company as a whole. This specialist manual equips you with an understanding of how to use the standard to solve a specific task. Used as an interpretation guide, it enables you to improve procedures effectively in keeping with Automotive SPICE® standards.
It also provides you with uniform assessment benchmarks. The structure of the manual corresponds to the structure of the standard.
The 2nd edition was updated in line with Automotive SPICE® v3.0. The picture is completed by looking at current topics such as practical assessments in keeping with intacs™ and VDA requirements, the challenges of process improvements, and AGILE DEVELOPMENT and FUNCTIONAL SAFETY ACCORDING TO ISO 26262.

Misunderstandings often arise when interpreting the process requirements of Automotive SPICE®: For example, the scope that an output work product must have in order to fulfill the purpose of the process is not self-explanatory. That is why four experts from three continents have put their heads together and written a book that provides information on the application and understanding of the ASPICE process reference model. The compact book tells users what they need to know that is not in the standard. The 16 processes from the VDA scope are prepared in such a way that users can implement the process requirements in a targeted manner and assessors can evaluate them correctly. For each core process, this book explains the misunderstandings and pitfalls that can lurk during understanding and implementation, helping you to really understand ASPICE.
Process improvements made easy: With this compact book from the Essentials series, you can quickly gain an overview of the requirements of Automotive SPICE®. You will learn what to expect in the assessment and how the reference model affects other standards and procedures, for example functional safety (ISO 26262) or agile methods such as Scrum and Kanban.
The first chapter explains the basic idea of ASPICE, introduces the process model and discusses business issues. The second chapter deals with the structure and content of the model. As experienced assessors and practitioners, the authors not only explain the structure of the model and its relationships, but also provide practical tips.
Chapter three looks at the relevant processes in detail: the authors explain the core processes relevant to automotive manufacturers and their suppliers. In addition, they present findings and common problems in application that they have encountered in over ten years of experience with ASPICE. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the assessments used to systematically evaluate the process quality of organizations. The authors explain procedures and roles as well as the necessary preparation for a typical assessment.
In the final chapter, the authors discuss how ASPICE can be integrated into other models and approaches, such as functional safety according to ISO 26262 and agile methods and practices.
This volume provides you with the relevant aspects so that you can competently decide whether you can effectively improve the work processes in your company with Automotive SPICE®.
The Automotive SPICE® pocket guide contains all the important components of ASPICE in a practical pocket format. This includes the VDA scope and other processes that have proven to be important for OEM assessments in daily practice. For each process, the Purpose, Outcomes, Output Work Products, Base Practices with Notes and the Generic Practices of Levels 1 to 3 have been included and clearly presented in the smallest possible form. This makes the Automotive SPICE® pocket guide an indispensable working tool – both for day-to-day work and for assessments.
