Introducing agile concepts in Automotive markets

An overview of Scrum, Kanban and agile methods and their application in efficient development

An overview of Agile methods and the proper application of Agile with Automotive SPICE® and Functional Safety, and Team of Teams implementation. In addition to the training, a certification exam will be given for those attempting to pursue Agile in Automotive certification.

This 3-day training introduces you in the effective application of the widely-used agile methods Scrum and Kanban. You'll also learn how to cope with such regulatory requirements as Automotive SPICE® and Functional Safety. The concept of Team of Teams allows you to implement these methods in the context of a large Automotive development organization.

In addition to the training, a certification exam will be given for those attempting to pursue Agile in Automotive certification. 

This training is planned in 9 modules:

Introduction to Agile

  • Overview, aims, agenda
  • Introduction of course participants and discussion of expectations
  • Introduction to the topics of agility, motivation, values and principles, underlying concepts and philosophy, an overview of agile methods and practices
  • An introduction to Scrum and Kanban
  • A team exercise to show the power of iterative processes and teamwork

Scrum Roles

  • Understand the responsibilities and differences between the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development Team roles
  • Interpersonal, personal, and cultural issues in the context of the overall setting and givens (hierarchies vs. independence)
  • Understand new roles introduced for Automotive and how Automotive effects existing roles
  • Understand how the team rallies around customer-centric direction

Agile Requirements

  • Understand how Scrum deals with customer requirements
  • Understand how to implement Agile requirements in support of Automotive SPICE and ISO 26262
  • Understand the backlog and refinement processes
  • Familiarity with the elements of good user stories

Agile Estimating

  • Understand the difference between size and effort
  • Comprehend how daily noise affects capacity
  • Lean techniques to arrive at team estimates
  • Workshop and discussion: apply agile estimation to your project

Sprint Planning

  • Understand the Basics of the Sprint Planning Meeting
  • Learn How to Define, Breakdown & Achieve the Sprint Goal
  • Understand how to align sprint plans with resources using velocity
  • Understand the Definition of “Ready” & “Done”
  • Understand the unique requirements of Automotive SPICE and ISO 26262 work products and some techniques to plan for these work products
  • Learn Some Basic Tools for Sprint Monitoring
  • Workshop and discussion: apply sprint planning techniques to your project, plan your first sprint

Release Planning

  • Learn the association between Product Plan, Release Plans, and Sprints
  • Comprehend velocity extrapolation given historical performance
  • Understand what negotiation might be possible within Release Planning
  • Understand how quality and compliance milestones can be delivered iteratively

Team of Teams

  • Understand the team of team planning concept
  • Understand the use of architectural decomposition in team of team planning
  • Understand how to plan for and manage cross team dependencies
  • Understand how the cross-team delivery of quality and compliance work products can be managed
  • Workshop and discussion: planning a multi-team release with cross-team dependencies

Course details

  • Duration: 3 days
  • From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Networking: Dinner for participants at the end of Day 1
  • The number of participants is limited to 25
  • Comprehensive certification exam at the end of the 3rd day
